Like last year, we invite good riders to join us for the annual trek of horses, cows and sheep towards their summer pastures in the high altitudes : theTranshumance :
ST. LIZIER - BETHMALE 380 €
June : first weekend + monday
Transhumance of the Mérens horses from Saint Lizier to ascend to Seintein and the summer pastures of Bethmale, then return Monday to Saint Lizier.
1st day: We start at 6 am from the medieval city of Saint–Lizier, where several herds – about a hundred black Mérens horses - will be brought together. At noon, after a picnic, we will separate the herds in two groups, one of which will be guided by the riders to the mountain lake of Bethmale. In the evening: meeting with the shepherds for a party, and night in a rustic hostel.
2nd day: In the morning we’ll continue to bring the herd to their final destination, the “cirque de Campuls” situated in the middle of the magnificent panorama at 1800 m .
In the afternoon we reach the valley and the pension.
3nd day: Without the herds, the riders will come back to Saint-Lizier , travelling through the gorgeous sites of the “Etang de Bethmale”, the “Col de la core” and the forest of l’Arrech. We’ll arrive at 5 pm.
SEIX- AULA 480 €
June : second weekend + monday + tuesday
Transhumance of the Mérens horses from Biert via Seix to the estives of Aula.
1st day. We start from the horse farm of Cavalus in Biert at 9 am to reach the valley of Seix where a Merens horses herd is starting. In the evening: dinner with the shepherds, night in a rustic hostel.
2nd day: Along the river of Salat we guide the herd of 40 horses to the summer pasture of Aula by Couflens. We will be climbing up to 1800m of altitude where we will leave the horses behind into their new freedom.
3rd day: Without the herd we reach the Spanish border, then descend via the majestic and wild Estours valley to arrive at the gîte at Aunac.
4th day: Following shepherds' trails we reach Biert and the farm at Cavalus at about 5:00 pm
The prices include the equipped horse, the guide, full board and all transfers during the trek.
We reserve the right to modify part of the circuit or the conditions of accommodation or catering if necessary.
